Begin at Birth (2000 – 2008)
The family plays a vital role in the health of a child. Nurturing and caring for loved ones at any age contributes too many benefits that lead to positive health outcomes. The Begin at Birth Initiative (B@B) focused on raising public awareness on the importance of the first three years of life for a child – not only their academic achievement, but also their health, safety and overall well-being. Priority was placed on improving quality of child care centers, providing parent education, and engaging fathers in the lives of their children.
B@B also provided birth calendar to new moms at all hospitals and maternity clinics throughout the region. The calendar provided contact information to medical and social services, reminders to see the doctor, stickers to document your baby’s growth, and an application for the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
A media campaign was also developed to reinforce Positive Parent through Patience messages that babies cry and can be messy, but this is normal. Don’t overwhelm yourself or become frustrated - be patient and keep your cool. Never hit, shake or hurt your child.
