Foundation awards grants to support healthy youth

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded 12 grants for more than $1,247,000 under the Healthy Relationships Priority Area – IGNITE Initiative. The goal of the IGNITE initiative is to work with community organizations and schools to improve health outcomes of youth through participation in out-of-school programs.

Funded organizations are:

Creative Kids, Inc. - $91,944.60 Project ABLE (Art Brokers Learning Experiences) To offer an after-school and summer visual arts education program for 115 disconnected youth 7-18 years old in Fabens, TX.

Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest – Southern New Mexico & West Texas Inc. - $50,000.00 Troop Pathway Specialist Program To create 24 new troops serving 240 new girls in Dona Aña, Luna, and Otero counties in NM, and offer the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to disconnected girls.

The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico - $81,949.30 Ignite for FUN To implement a pilot program for 60 youth focusing on health, civic engagement, and art through the collaboration of Place Matters, Ocotillo Institute for Social Justice, and the Court Youth Center in Las Cruces, NM.

Boys and Girls Clubs of El Paso - $88,000.00 Club Connect To recruit 160 disconnected youth into existing Boys and Girls Club programs throughout El Paso County.

El Paso Symphony Orchestra Association Inc. - $100,034.00 Tocando To implement an after-school and summer youth orchestra program at Hart Elementary for 60 children. Expansion will also occur to serve 30 more new children at a new elementary school in El Paso, TX.

Organización Popular Independiente, A.C. - $68,779.66 Culture and Sports for the Development of Positive Environment To provide an after-school program to 250 youth in Juárez, MX.

YWCA El Paso del Norte Region - $29,200.60 YWCA Teen Leadership Expansion Pilot To expand the Teen Leadership program into pilot communities of Socorro, Clint, Fabens, and Horizon City in Texas and serve 100 youth ages 10-17 years old through an after-school and summer program.

Centro de Asesoria y Promocion Juvenil, A.C. - $102,000.00 Youth in Action: Opportunities for Youth Connection and Development To provide a variety of workshops in five community centers and add one new center to serve 570 disconnected youth ages 11-18 years old in Juárez, MX.

Casa Amiga Centro de Crisis, A.C. - $17,346.00 Teenagers in Positive Environments To provide workshops on healthy relationships in a safe environment for 70 disconnected youth ages 12-17 years old in the south east and far east areas of Juárez, MX.

Boy Scouts of America Yucca Council - $97,376.40 United We Prosper To recruit 200 disconnected boys in the far east and south east areas of El Paso to become part of the Boy Scouts of America program.

The FEMAP Foundation - $86,247.70 Disconnected Youth To implement an out-of-school program for 210 disconnected children and youth in the URBI Villa del Campo community in Juarez, MX.

United Way of El Paso County - $434,552.00 Organizing Agency To provide leadership, coordination efforts, and technical assistance to support a successful IGNITE initiative.
