Fundación Paso del Norte celebrate its Launch Event; Announces $1 Million Hunt Family Foundation Challenge Grant

The Fundación Paso del Norte para la Salud y Bienestar celebrated its establishment in Ciudad Juárez with board members, staff, community leaders and stakeholders at its “Dando el primer paso” launch event on

Tuesday, May 24, 2016 6 p.m. Museo de la Revolución en la Frontera.

Fundación Board Chairman, Benjamin Torres-Barron, shared the mission of the new Fundación Paso del Norte, established in 2015 by the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, and to improve the quality of life of children, youth and families in Ciudad Juárez by leading, advancing and promoting initiatives, programs and partnerships for health and well-being.

Mr. Torres-Barron extended his gratitude to Mr. Josh Hunt, President of the Hunt Family Foundation, who announced the Hunt Family Foundation’s $1 million Challenge Grant to the Fundación ($200,000/year over the next five years) to inspire and leverage charitable giving to improve health and quality of life in Ciudad Juárez. Through the Challenge Grant, the Hunt Family Foundation will match fifty cents for each new dollar raised to support the Fundacion’s grantmaking in Ciudad Juárez.

Karen Yarza, Fundación Executive Director, said the Fundación is taking its first steps towards improving health in Cd. Juarez with two new programs:

  1. “Retos para la Salud” Challenge Fund program to provide matching fund to Juarez nonprofit organizations, and

  2. “Juarez en Accion” partnership with One World Play Project and FC Bravos to deliver 5,000 un-deflatable soccer balls to schools and community centers and promote physical activity, health education and community pride in the school and community setting.
