Lighting up 20 years of health leadership in the region

August 25, 2015

As the sun sets on the west side of the Franklin Mountains, the number 20 illuminates from the sides of the Wells Fargo Building in Downtown El Paso. The‘20’ announces the celebration of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s 20th Anniversary and the organization’s two decade contribution to health promotion in the region.

The Health Foundation was established from the sale of Providence Memorial Hospital to Tenet Healthcare in 1995. The Health Foundation is one of the largest private foundations on the U.S.-Mexico border and works to improve the lives of the people living in far western Texas, southern New Mexico and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico through health education, research and advocacy.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the Health Foundation is encouraging social media conversations tied to the hashtag #whatsyour20. The phrase “What’s your twenty?” typically is law enforcement lingo for “Where are you?” In this case, the Health Foundation is encouraging social media participants to share their recent ‘location’ of successes, accomplishments, and celebrations by tagging their posts with #whatsyour20. If you are on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or other platforms, share your celebrations with the local community, as we recognize the Paso del Norte Health Foundation for 20 years of health improvement.

“We turned to social media to open a dialog about what others celebrate ‘at their 20,’” said Jon Law, president of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation. “It was great to see the number of people that are tweeting important moments in their lives. One person tweeted that they were celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary.”

The ‘20’ will stay lit until the end of September, when the Health Foundation will host several events to celebrate its anniversary and start conversations about its next two decades of work.
