Sharing valuable information with school districts on the dangers of vaping and tobacco use

School districts in and around El Paso County participated in a Smoke-Free Training provided by the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and Action for Healthy Kids. National youth tobacco prevention and intervention experts from the American Heart Association, the Truth Initiative, and Stanford Division of Adolescent Medicine shared available programs and lessons learned that could be integrated to address the causes of vaping/tobacco use. Project Vida receives certification for a Community-Based Psychiatry Residency Program

Project Vida was recently accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to provide a Community-Based Psychiatry Residency Program for medical students. This new residency program will offer the opportunity to train the next generation of psychiatrists to help treat underserved communities in El Paso and the Paso del Norte region.

A meal with fruits and vegetables helps maintain a healthy weight and lowers the risk of diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Organización Popular Independiente, A.C. (OPI) provides healthy snacks to more than 150 children in Cd. Juárez with their Chefs en Acción program. Funded by the Health Foundation, children are learning to prepare healthy snacks and have increased their daily consumption of fruits and vegetables.

Dr. Michael Kelly, Vice President of Programs for the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, was featured in the June edition of The City Magazine for his work on the Health Foundation’s diabetes prevention and management initiative. Health Foundation awards new grants for Healthy Eating Initiative

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded 15 grants totaling more than $2.4 million under the Healthy Living priority area. These grants will support nutritious meals, physical activity, home gardens, training for teachers, and cooking education programs that help children and adults in the border region live healthier lives.

Carnival fun along the Playa Drain Trail

Families recently gathered along the Playa Drain Trail by Mimosa Avenue and Balsam Drive to enjoy some Carnival-themed fun.

Several booths were set up along the trail with food and fun activities such as corn hole, ring toss, horseshoe, mystery fishing, and a photo booth. Clowns entertained children with balloon shaping and magic. The event is part of an overall approach to making residents aware of the trail and the benefits it can have on one’s health.
