Paso del Norte Trail named Texan by Nature 2020 Conservation Wranger

April 14, 2020

Texan by Nature (TxN), a Texas-led conservation nonprofit announced earlier this month that Paso del Norte Trail was selected among the 2020 Conservation Wranglers. The organization’s Conservation Wrangler program recognizes six innovative conservation projects across the state of Texas for their science-based and results driven approach to conservation along with their ability to positively impact people, prosperity, and natural resources. The 2020 Conservation Wranglers will work with the Texan by Nature team, receiving 12-18 months of dedicated program support and tailored resources.

“Every year, Texan by Nature shines a light on conservation stewards and their efforts to take care of the state I’m proud to call home,” shared former First Lady and Founder of Texan by Nature, Mrs. Laura Bush. “The Conservation Wrangler program proves that collaborative partnerships in conservation yield great benefits for Texas and its people. Congratulations to the six 2020 Conservation Wranglers, and thank you for the terrific example you’ve set for the rest of us.”

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation (PdNHF) provided funding and coordination for the trail project. The PdNHF partnered with municipalities and community organizations in the region to develop the 68-mile county-wide trail for residents and visitors.

“We are so honored that the Paso del Norte Trail is being recognized as a 2020 Conservation Wrangler by Texans Care for Nature. Trails are important amenities for health and wellness, and public spaces to celebrate the unique geography, history and culture of our region. We are grateful to the many partners that are making the vision for the Paso del Norte Trail a reality,” said Tracy Yellen, CEO of PdNHF.

The diverse set of projects impacts land, water, habitat, and more, spanning all 254 counties and all 12 ecological regions of the Lone State State. The six selected 2020 Conservation Wranglers include: Paso del Norte Trail, Respect Big Bend, Trinity Park Conservancy, Texas Brigades, Exploration Green Conservancy, and Texas Children in Nature.
