November 16, 2021

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation is pleased to share the good news from the Texas Transportation Commission, which recently approved more than $55 million for 41 projects across the state that will build sidewalks, shared use paths, bike lanes, pedestrian bridges and other safety features for people who walk and ride bicycles for transportation.

Specifically, we are pleased to share that the County of El Paso will receive funding for the following projects that are part of the Paso del Norte Trail system:

  • Project Name: Alamo Alto Segment of the Paso del Norte Trail (Tornillo)
Phases of work included in award: preliminary engineering, construction
    Federal Funding Amount: $2,850,513
Project Description: The project will construct a 12-foot-wide shared use path (SUP) approximately 1.3 miles long along Rancho Road, Henderson Road, and the Alamo Alto Canal in Tornillo. Additionally, the project includes a sidewalk along Henderson Rd from Alamo Alto Canal to Cobb Ave, connecting to a previously awarded transportation alternative sidewalk project. The project will include a pedestrian bridge over the canal, ADA ramps, pavement marking, signage, crosswalks, and illumination. This project is part of the 68-mile planned Paso del Norte Trail system in the El Paso region and part of the future Texas Bicycle Tourism Trail network.
