Funding opportunity under Diabetes Initiative

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation seeks Letters of Intent (LOIs) from eligible organizations to provide or support diabetes prevention, early detection, and management programs. Programs may be related to type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes. Population, systems, and individual-level strategies will be considered. The following categories are of special interest.

State funding to help connect sections of the Paso del Norte Trail

The Texas Transportation Commission announced more than $345 million for new sidewalks, bikeways, and other types of infrastructure to help improve safety and enhance quality of life in Texas communities.

Funding will support 83 projects across Texas – including 2 projects along the 68-mile Paso del Norte Trail for more than $26 million.

El Paso County will receive $10,116,918 for the Alamo Alto segment of the Paso del Norte to construct more than 4.8 miles of shared path along Alameda Avenue from Grace Street in Fabens to Farm Road 1109 in the town of Tornillo, parallel to IH 20….

Working together to make safe routes to school possible for children

Davenport Elementary students and PE staff recently participated in a Safe Routes to School event guided by the El Paso Police Department as they walked to a neighborhood park during PE. This activity is a partnership between the El Paso Health Department, Action for Healthy Kids, and the Health Foundation’s Physical Activity Initiative aimed to make it safer for students to walk and bike to school and encourage more physical activity.
