Health Foundation staffer appointed to the 2020 Census Action Team

Michael Kelly, Vice President of Programs for the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, was recently appointed to the 2020 Census Action Team by Mayor Dee Margo and County Judge Ruben Vogt.

The Census Action Team will provide recommendations for the deployment of resources to both the City and the County on how best to utilize community resources to count as many El Pasoans – including hard to count areas. The U.S. Census is conducted every 10 years.

El Paso Giving Day raises more than $402,000 for nonprofit organizations in Paso del Norte Region

Thanks to the record-breaking generosity of El Pasoans, this year’s El Paso Giving Day lifted nonprofit organizations around the region well-above their $300,000 fundraising goal.

That goal was met in the early evening hours on El Paso Giving Day, November 15. By the time all donations were in at midnight and donations, including corporate matches, were tallied the final tally came in at more than $402,000 raised.

Playa Drain Trail Celebration!

New grants awarded to engage youth in out-of-school programs

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded four grants totaling more than $313 thousand under the Healthy Kids Priority Area – IGNITE initiative.

The goal of the IGNITE Initiative is to improve a range of health outcomes by engaging disconnected youth in the Paso del Norte region in high quality programs during out of school hours. Doña Ana Coalition assess alcohol outlet density

The statement of need is alarming. Over 18 percent of Doña Ana County high school seniors report their first drink of alcohol was before age 13.

By 12th grade, 72 percent of Doña Ana High School students self-report they have consumed alcohol, a troubling trend in a county where, since 1997, adults have reported the highest or second-highest rates in the nation for alcohol-related deaths from chronic liver disease, injury death, and motor vehicle traffic death.
