The Paso del Norte Health Foundation engaged Sites Southwest and Alta Design last year to help develop a master plan for a proposed 60-mile county-wide Paso del Norte Trail. The overall goal of the trails is to connect neighborhoods, provide new recreation options and promote a healthy, active lifestyle for residents and visitors. Public meeting held on proposed Paso del Norte Trail

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation hosted a public meeting in mid-July to get additional public input on the proposed county-wide Paso del Norte Trail. More than 100 people attended the meeting that included a presentation by the trail planners from Sites Southwest on the proposed alignment and typologies for the trail. Andeavor provides support to plan for next segment of Playa Drain Trail

Planning for the next phase of the Playa Drain Trail from Riverside High School to Ysleta High School will now begin thanks to a generous $50,000 grant from Andeavor to the Paso del Norte Foundation.

The Playa Drain Trail is an 8.3-mile segment of the 60-mile Paso del Norte Trail. The Health Foundation partnered with El Paso Water and City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department to construct 3.4-miles of the Trail from Ascarate Park to Riverside High School with $2.5 million of Health Foundation funds and $300,000 in Quality of Life Bond funds. San Elizario adopts clean air ordinance

This June, the San Elizario Mayor and City Council Members voted unanimously to adopt a clean air ordinance, designed to reduce smoking rates in the City.

A Smoke Free Paso del Norte, an initiative of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, and the Clean Air Coalition worked together with community residents to advocate for this health-improving change. Offering afterschool programs to disconnected youth in El Paso County

Over the past five years, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) -Yucca Council and the Paso del Norte Health Foundation have teamed up to increase the participation of disconnected youth in the Scouts, adding more than 1,000 families to the Scouting family since 2013.

Construction continues to move forward on the Playa Drain Trail

Construction crews are working on trailheads at Ascarate Park and Riverside High School entrances as well as along the trail intersections. Most of the trail surface is completed and the amenities are starting to be added such as trees and plants in some sections.

El Paso Giving Day is right around the corner and the Paso del Norte Foundation has several ways for local nonprofit organizations to take full advantage of our region’s only community-wide day of charitable giving.
