Paso del Norte Health Foundation partners with United Way of El Paso County to offer research-based training for nonprofit board members to build essential knowledge, ethical leadership principles, and insight into emerging trends.

Since its inception in 2013, the Board Training program has evolved to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world while upholding the ethics and core skills required for board members to fulfill their meaningful responsibilities.

Based on feedback from nonprofit board members, Paso del Norte Health Foundation updated courses in 2026 to assist boards with digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and changing donor expectations, while continuing to teach fundamentals of the nonprofit sector.

The training is designed to equip board members with practical tools and knowledge across key areas, including:

• Virtual and in-person training enhanced for flexibility and regional reach
• Interactive, case-based learning with real-world applications
• Different pathways for novice and experienced learners
• Bilingual content with the intent to support cross-border board sharing
• Acquiring skills, behaviors, and competencies necessary to positively impact the population
• Managing board meetings (agendas, board minutes, and more)
• Facilitating board dialogue
• Building a strong and healthy relationship with CEOs
• Understanding legal and ethical roles for boards

Board training workshops are designed by regional experts, informed by national best practices, and delivered by Board Source-trained facilitators with a focus on the specific needs of regional non-profits. Participants can attend workshops in Southern New Mexico, El Paso, or Cd. Juarez.
