Pushing for El Paso to become one of the first major U.S. cities to adopt an ordinance banning indoor smoking in public places, and seeing a reduction in the number of smokers and incidence of lung cancer rates as a result.
Reducing the excess calories in meals and creating healthy menu options in restaurants; adding miles of public walking trails; and facilitating teen-to-teen conversations on the U.S.-Mexico border around the topic of healthy sexuality.

Foundation awards new grants to support healthy eating and active living

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded 15 grants totaling more than $2.2 million under the Healthy Eating Active Living Priority Area – HEAL Initiative. The purpose of the HEAL Initiative is to make healthy eating and active living the easy choice for youth and their families.
Funded organizations are:
Arbol de Vida - $106,028.25 Healthy Eating Active Living To provide meals and offer physical activity for residents near-by middle and high schools at their center in Ciudad Juárez, MX.

Foundation awards grants to engage disconnected youth in the region

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded eight grants for more than $655,000 under the Healthy Relationships Priority Area – IGNITE Initiative. The goal of the IGNITE initiative is to improve health outcomes of disconnected youth through participation in high quality out-of-school programs in the Paso del Norte region.

As the sun sets on the west side of the Franklin Mountains, the number 20 illuminates from the sides of the Wells Fargo Building in Downtown El Paso. The‘20’ announces the celebration of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s 20th Anniversary and the organization’s two decade contribution to health promotion in the region.

Myrna J. Deckert announced her retirement as CEO of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation. Now she’s looking forward to years of golf, travel and being with her children and grandchildren.

Offering comprehensive sexual education to youth in Ciudad Juárez

Teens talking directly to other teens is creating a healthy conversation around sexuality in Ciudad Juárez.
Using a peer-to-peer training model, the FEMAP Foundation is providing comprehensive sexuality education for 8,000 youth age 12 to 18 in primary and secondary schools in Juárez.
